Aloy glanced around the city she had found herself in after GAIA had sent her back in time to try to fix a problem with the time stream. She didn't know what it meant, just that something bad had happened. It was so loud, people everywhere and metal soaring around her. She'd had to leave her weapons behind and construct a semblance of Old World clothing, a leather short skirt and belly showing top made of Carja silks.

Nightmares were not fun. Alex’s formerly peaceful sleep had been disturbed, although she’d been sleeping better recently since letting Bucky stay with her. Images of both her father and Norman were swirling around her unconscious mind, causing her to toss and turn, whimpering.

But then the nightmares got worse, Norman was so close to getting her, to getting everything he wanted from her... And Alex jerked awake, a small scream of terror coming from her.

Bucky could smell the distress in Jemma’s scent and knew he couldn’t leave her again. Not for a long while at least. Maybe this mission would be the last of the dangerous ones for the team for awhile.

He tried not to think too hard about what he would do if Coulson tried to order him on another mission tomorrow. It wouldn’t end well but he was sure the director knew that as well as he did.

Bucky held Jemma tightly. “I’m here, Jem. We’re safe. Everything is going to be okay. I promise,” he whispered softly in her ear. They stood like that for nearly ten minutes, no one interrupting. When Bucky finally pulled away, he cupped her face in his hands. “I love you,” he said firmly, kissing her gently.

She couldn’t touch enough of him.  She wanted to be able to touch all of him, reassure herself it was him and this wasn’t some fevered dream.  It might have been just a hour but it felt like a lifetime, knowing what Coulson had asked of him.

She felt wetness on her face as he held and knew she was crying again.  She knew he was already worried enough and what he had just been through, he didn’t need her blubbering over it all.

He pulled her face for him to look at it and she stared up at him as he spoke those words.  It made her heart clench with happiness and sorrow. She kissed him back, her hands on his wrists. When their kiss broke, she mumbled against his lips, “I love you more.”

Bucky kissed Jemma’s hair and smiled, a true look of happiness on his face. He felt relieved that this didn’t end badly. Especially after Natasha told him to expect a slap to the face from any omega he tried to collar. Then again, she didn’t know Jemma too well. “You don’t have to wear it out if you don’t want to,” he said quickly. “I know things are different now. It’s just, something from my past that I remembered. ‘Course I couldn’t afford something this fancy back then.” His finger traced the lace pattern wondering if he’d even of tried to catch a dame like Jemma back then. She was out of his depth then and even more so now.

“Of course I’ll wear it silly,” she said, turning her head to look at him.  “What’s the point of it if I don’t?” She turned in her arms, leaning up to kiss his lips softly. “This may come as a shock to you, but I love you and I’m anything but ashamed of that.”
