so the alternate start mod lets you pick different starting points in the game (ie not helgen prisoner thing) so i chose to be an initiate vigilant of stendarr, 'cause that fit the paladin theme

but i needed some backstory to back this up b/c khajiit are, as a race, not exactly the obvious choice for a paladin. they literally refer to rules as thjizzrini (foolish concepts) and are known for their hedonistic lifestyles and stuff.

so i was like ok what would drive a khajiit to take up paladinry esp the exteme/harsh approach of stendarr vigilants and the obvious thing for a khajiit is skooma, bc while moonsugar is an integral and sacred part of their culture, skooma is destructive and addictive, and the trade/smuggling of the substance leads to deaths and shit not infrequently

so i decided that my character had a past girlfriend, a fairly serious/long term relationship, that was killed by the skooma trade. maybe she was drawn into it to pay some debts, and was eventually killed by an overdose (perhaps given deliberately to her by a smuggler to murder her). and the worst part for aiya (my char) is that she was aware of what her partner was involved in and at first dismissed it as not a major problem, and when she did start seeing issues, didn't step in to stop them.
