The Moonlit World
The world of the Spirits is very similar to our world, but there are a few distinctive differences that set it apart from a quick glance alone.
There is no electricity in this world. Even oil is rare and most lamps shine because of smaller creatures called “Sparks” born in this world. They act like fireflys. Each glows a different color and most lamppost have several clustered in their glasses making them glow.
They have to be exchanged every five days and the dead bugs shine a whole day after they died.
There are several cities cut off from each other by gaping holes, giant cliffs or thick forests. Inside these cities human shaped creatures life together with humans who stumbled into this world by accident.
The sky is always full of stars and the moon and the ground is nearly always covered in mist. Cities are usually build higher.
Every human you encounter was not born in this world and is most likely a sacrifice, collateral or used magic unsupervised and paid the price.
The highest ranking (power wise) in the world have the demons. You can set them apart by their rich clothing and tails, as well as their horns. The Black Cult they are part of rules this world – Demons, Magicans and Vampires all wear signs of their houses under their dominant eye when they enter the Harrowing.
Everyone in this world pays with their secrets, because money means nothing when you have eternity but every soul is curious for the unknown.
You are valued by your soul. The brighter it shines the prettier it is and the more likely people are to be drawn to you – even if they can’t see it.
Be careful of being seen by Collectors. They might flesh you, if they like you. (Extract your soul from the body and eat those to make you their slave in all eternity.) Collectors are usually demons but there is an odd Vampire/Magican among them.
There is one demon in the Banshees Veil (Forest) that offers his services for fifty secrets. He then extracts your soul and puts it in a glass container for you to bury somewhere safe or for him to keep watch over (he pays five secrets a hundred years). He likes the colors and shapes they are.
