More amazing carriages and sleds! 

The Marstallmuseum (Museum in the former royal stables ) in Munich is one of the most important museums for court carriages in the world. It is located in the South Wing of Nymphenburg Palace.

On display is a vehicle park from the time of the Bavarian and Palatine electors and kings of the House of Wittelsbach. The collection gives an extensive overview of the development of the carriages from the end of the 17th century to the end of the 19th century with exhibits from Germany, France, and England.

In the morning we headed to the Nymphenburg Palace to wander the house and gardens. Luckily, we bought a ticket to the carriage museum. This museum–alone–was worth the visit. My jaw dropped at the wealth displayed in the decoration of these carriages. I have an insane imagination and I’d be hard-pressed to conceive of more fanciful transport. Mermaids, tritons, suns and moons, dragons and all manner of pagan creatures adorn these fanciful creations. I was stunned at how ostentatious and over the top these carriages and sleds were. It’s safe to say that we will never make such things again. Just wonderful.
