Welcome back to the sneaker review of the @jumpman23 #Mars270 . Previously, I reported going to the mall and these very striking sneakers, and promised to give an update based on their overall appeal, cushioning, and feel. Let's get into it. 1. Looks: Being built like Barney Rubble automatically makes me stand out in a crowd. This colorway drew attention instantly, especially with the really good glow-in-dark soles that seemed to pop well- even in store lighting conditions. One guy went out of his way to comment about them, saying "they finally made something modern that's worth buying". 2. Cushioning: After 25-30 minutes of walking between stores, the heels felt like they were giving up the fight. In other 270 models, I found this to be my #1 complaint. Over time, they felt less and less responsive. Max 180 or classic 90s feel just like this does, which isn't a compliment. I expected better, given how long 270 has been available to purchase. 3. Construction: Typical #Nike gluemarks were actually missing in this pair. It looks like the lot these came from had a smaller run, or had better quality control. The seams were good, the material breakup was classic and inspired. However, the fit was out of sorts in 2 places: the toebox (pinkie toe/baby toe/wolf toe side) and the collar. The pinch in the toebox was so bad, I stopped to re-lace the shoes with the hopes it would help. But where the toebox meets the eyelets, there was no relief. At all. I thought deeply about stopping at a surf shop to grab a pair of slides just to these off. Yes, they hurt like that. Meanwhile, the collar's edge was digging into my leg a bit, but tall socks could fix that. It's an issue on many mids and hi's, so I can't deduct as harshly. Conclusion: Sad and Unfortunate Pass. The longer you wear them, the worse they become. PROS: Good looking shoe. Good concept. Different, but familiar CONS: The fit is terrible where it counts the most. About a month ago, I bought these..the @jumpman23 "Mars 270". I'll be taking notes as I wear them today as a lifestyle sneaker, on a trip to the mall. Check back in to see the results. Oh, for full disclosure's sake, I am absolutely not a fan of the 270 cushioning system. At all. In any way.
