it's far from the only thing to highlight about Dedue's paralogue, and far from the most important thing, but
there's this perfect moment from the opening cutscene:
It's understated because of how easily it passes, but that ease is what makes this moment so striking. There is a whole lot of comfort and intimacy packaged in these couple sentences: Would you like me to explain? (You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to.) No. It should be me. (No one else gets to tell this story.) And that's it! Dimitri shuts up while Dedue explains the situation. An offer and a refusal, with no baggage and performance involved. Dimitri trusts Dedue to take his offer in good faith, and Dedue trusts Dimitri to accept his refusal, and nothing more needs to be said.
Their CB supports are all about the distance and friction that's grown between them, their increasing failures to communicate and understand each other -- but then they have moments like these, where you get to see what they used to have, & realize how strange their current separation is
