It should have come to Elena sooner that nowhere in Hogwarts was secluded enough for her to just skip the awkward pleasantries. Why did no one understand that she just wanted to be alone - but then again, she had observed that wizards had no notion of personal space. It suddenly seemed apparent to her that perhaps she had spend too much of her time with Matthew because his loss now seemed as if she was missing a limb, as if she was incomplete. 

A part of her wondered when she got suck into it so deep. 

Owlery. There shouldn’t be anyone there, if Elena was lucky enough. That did make her snort, considering that luck wasn’t exactly something she was used to. Your grades turn out fine, her conscience prompted and it was immediately met with an arrogant Because I’m smart.

Oh lovely. Now she was talking to herself too. Certified nuts. It wouldn’t be soon before Pomfrey carted her off to the only hospital in the entire damn place and then recommend complete bed rest. Elena decided that seemed like a better alternative to people. 

Owls were a better alternative to people. The sigh of the creatures suddenly brought up the fact that Ascot - Matthew’s owl who had a great knack of barging in whenever they were well into their make out session - was still alive. Why couldn’t Ascot die instead of Matthew? The mere thought made her cringe and she brushed it aside, heading over to the end of the wing-->

Of fucking course there was someone there as well. Did all her luck die along with Matthew or...? Enough with the dead jokes. Well at least her conscience was trying. She blinked in slight surprise when she realised who exactly it was and then had half a mind to bolt out of there and never return. She had spent her entire time in a haze of guilt and pain, a haze that she knew could have been lessened if she could only have had a proper conversation with Marlene-- the very same Marlene who seemed determined that she would not let her get a hold of her. Perhaps luck was on her side this time.
