We are haunted beings. Memories haunt us. Hates hang heavy in hangers in our heads. Regrets slither our solci dripping venom. Hopes glow off on the horizon, seeming to recede as we run towards them. Desires chatter incessantly, crowds of them camping in our ear canals. People we haven’t seen in eons people our hearts, popping up implausibly at the worst possible times. We drag through our days, scarcely in sense with all these ghosts bandying about. Markus Manowski depicts the spectral, hallucinogenic gloom you find yourself inhabiting when these spirits overwhelm you, shades and horrors and claustrophobic-circular insanity sweeping across each canvas, mental mirrors of angst and liminal anguish and tar-like visitations swallowing you whole with their familiarity.
