Having reblogged yesterday that cute little story about the "Evil" Hallmark Movie Boyfriends meeting in an airport lounge on their way back to the big city, sympathizing with each other's plights, and slowly falling in love, I wanted to share another thought that I had when I initially saw that post and collidedscope pointed out that the "Evil" Boyfriends often end up being surprisingly polite and respectful and kind, despite having their lives and relationships completely upended right before Christmas by a woman who, to them, has apparently done some sort of complete personality flip-flop:
"...you know, you could probably make a good horror movie out of that."
Yeah, we all agree that this could make a pretty good (if perhaps somewhat goofy) horror movie, correct? Something to do with mind control, or maybe complete replacement of the person a la Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers? I haven't watched enough terrible Hallmark movies to actually write anything like it myself, but here's how I think things should go, at least initially:
->Evil Boyfriend tells Girlfriend that unfortunately he cannot immediately drop everything to go with her to Rural Hometown -- he wishes he could, but there is a very important project he needs to get done, and if he wants to spend the actual holiday with her, he's gotta put in the time now; Girlfriend is like "yeah I get it, but my parents really want to see me -- I'll go there now and you can catch up later," which Evil Boyfriend is fine with
->Evil Boyfriend then, after a few days, gets wind of the fact that Girlfriend has decided to just stay in Rural Hometown, like, forever -- as per the linked post, he is like "that is alarming behavior" and goes off after her because he is concerned.
->Evil Boyfriend arrives in Rural Hometown and meets up with Girlfriend, who informs him that she has fallen in love with the Local Wholesome Hometown Boy because he has Opened Her Eyes To The Magic Of Christmas, and thus will be staying here forever doing Christmas Things and also she never actually loved him how dare you want to work hard
->Evil Boyfriend is devastated...but after taking some time to cry in his Cutesy Bed & Breakfast room, he realizes that she really did not sound like herself during that whole speech
->Evil Boyfriend, stuck in the town as he can't immediately get a flight back (holidays make it hard to travel, don't you know), noticing that the whole town is honestly kind of weird -- like he gets that some places really get into the holidays, but everyone here is like "Magic Of Christmas Magic Of Christmas" with big artificial smiles all the time
->Evil Boyfriend thus becoming convinced that Something Is Wrong Here and becoming determined to get to the bottom of it, all the while everyone is treating him like he just needs to Open His Eyes To The Magic Of Christmas
->Evil Boyfriend figuring out what the Horrific Secret of the town is, and facing off against the Local Wholesome Hometown Boy his girlfriend left him for in the climax, as he's determined that this man is the responsible for everything, this man is the root of all the evil, this man --
Mark Hall.
...thoughts?
