Marilla, do you never wish you’d adopted a boy like you intended to? Anne Shirley, I wouldn’t trade you for a dozen boys. Now you just mind that. Was it a boy that got the bachelor of arts, and won the Rollings Reliable story contest, now was it? I’ll miss you. I’ll miss my girl. Promise me you won’t stay forever.
Like mother, like daughter.
It's a powerful thing to have done someone wrong... when you truly didn't intend it. I tried to apologize, but it didn't fix anything.
I love the transition Marilla’s character has over the course of the book series, as she grows older and as Anne matures, she softens and becomes such a maternal figure. I love how they’ve portrayed this in the show as well, with Matthew, Anne and now with Delphine. You can already see the mother Marilla (was meant to be) becomes to Anne and Anne’s future children. Marilla was there in Glen St. Mary every time Anne gave birth.

I’m afraid for her, Matthew. She’ll be gone so long. She’ll get terrible lonesome.
You mean we’ll get terrible lonesome.
Plain old unromantic Anne Shirley.
