High school biology teacher Marcus-David Peters was tragically killed by Richmond police while having a mental health episode in 2018. He was unarmed and unclothed at the time.🖤His family is calling for a “Marcus Alert” system that would bring in mental heath professionals as first responders in such situations, then police would be the back-up. Which really is common sense.🚨 His story hits me on so many levels...the mental heath angle of course and how we treat people at their most vulnerable, but also just how precious our black male educators are in the community.😓 The circle around the Lee Statue in RVA has been informally renamed Marcus-David Peters Circle (I swung by last month) so his legacy lives on.
