Over/Out: Rob Jacobs / The Humminbird @ Bar DeVille, 3/4/14
One of our favorite records of 2013 was the debut solo recordings from a young man hailing from Southern Illinois named Rob Jacobs. This Tuesday, March 4 we welcome him and his recently-inducted manifest to participate in Over/Out at Bar DeVille. Joining him is two-thirds of the Illinois jazz hybridists The Jewels—Marcus Mader (percussion) and David Allen (bass).
The Humminbird aka Chicago’s Muyassar Kurdi opens the evening with a set of her shamanic acid-folk bodings. Over the past two years, Kurdi has produced a dazzling body of compositions under the namesake The Humminbird. She is celebrated in Chicago as a consummate artist and tinkerer committing energies to innumerable disciplines and the elevation of day-to-day ephemera. It is our humble opinion that her latest, Beyond the Orchard, is begging to be heard on wax.Â
It’s our pleasure to welcome these two artists to Over/Out and witness a quiet but dynamic expansion of the Chicago experimental palate. Please join us for a generous evening of new music.Â
Over/Out at Bar DeVille (701 N Damen Ave, Chicago, Illinois), every Tuesday night at 10pm, vinyl selections by Joe Darling will be heard before, between, and after performances.Â
