Lately I've been really into dynamic microphones. These are my favorites and what you'll often hear on the record (edit: Nope, the top one isn't a gun. It's a sm57, waay more useful).
On most of the record I played upright rather than electric bass. Beautiful tone, but very difficult to properly record (EQ/compression settings alone take forever). Glad I took the time though!
