#marchmend Day5 Historic: The Crazy Quilt Saga. @emmawillardschool Freshman year 1970-1971: These are the jeans that started it all -- I repaired them for Allison all that spring, and she bequeathed them to me. Photo is me, Christmas 1971, age 15. Sophomore year, the uniforms were voluntary and we were allowed to wear jeans. These jeans, however, were NOT, due to the patches. When I became a Senior (73-74), I began working up the crazy quilt and used these jeans as a starting point, since I couldn't wear them on campus. The base was one of those heavy cotton sleeping bags with the printed duck motif flannel on the inside and an orangish broadcloth on the outside (it probably needed patching). I finished the quilt in time to hang it in the Senior Art Show. Wish I had a photo! The second photo shows the entire quilt as it looked in 2013. Note no patched jeans. There are patched jean cutoffs, but not the OG jeans. How did that happen?
