yeonhee’s thirtieth birthday celebration had left her in a panic. she had hit the big 3-0, and she was still a single woman with no prospects of a boyfriend or husband or anything really. but then she remembered the promise. a promise that she had made with her best friend in college. if they were both single by may 5, 2015 (the date randomly chosen by the two but was fairly easy to remember because of the repetition of the 5′s), then they’d marry one another.
the problem? yeonhee had been living and working in china since graduation, and though they kept in touch, they hadn’t been nearly as close as they once had. though she knew that he would have told her had he gotten married, she wasn’t too sure if he had a girlfriend or not. nevertheless, the timing worked out fairly well. her job was rotating her back to seoul, which meant that they would be living in the same city once again.Â
without warning, she showed up at his apartment the moment she had arrived in the city. they exchanged gifts, so she knew that was where he lived. she just hoped there was no girl opening the door to his apartment as she pushed the doorbell and waited.
