Marcel Baumgartner: Office and administration building, Rigiplatz Cham, Zug, Switzerland; Study 2014
The project is characterised by three rooms: the soothing expansion of Schulhausstrasse between the Schiess property and the “Spritzenhaus”, the actual Rigiplatz, an introverted green island with playground equipment, as well as the courtyard-like situation in the south.
The three differently characterised areas are redefined by a decided, precise intervention and put into a dialogue with one another through a common language in the design - the scale, the grain, the orientation and the geometrical formulation and the materialisation. Together they form the new Rigiplatz, as a spatially rich, dense and well-connected spatial structure.
The new administrative building is set as a slender, elongated building parallel to the Rigistrasse and occupies the corner at the transition from the Rigiplatz to the Rigistrasse.
The front is oriented towards the Rigiplatz and is articulated with an arcade as main and entrance facade. The longitudinal façade is in dialogue with the Schulhaus Kirchbühl I and supports the version of the green space of Chirchbüel and Büel by means of a powerful building. The arcade of the administration building stands in the flight of the entrance to the Schulhaus Kirchbühl I and mediates between Rigiplatz and Grünraum Chirchbüel, meaning as a spatial “joint”.
