maplefoxcrochet replied to your post: Here is a WIP of the ponyta I’m workin...
What is that stuff you’re using for the tail and how did you attach it? It looks so nice and fluffy! :D Also, is it meant more for decorative toys or do you think it could stand up to being played with?
Hi!!! To answer your questions I think what I make  probably can be withstood being played with! I generally sew my things together with the yarn itself to make it extra secure and to make sure nothing falls off! xD That'd be terrifying if I were to make something and suddenly the head pops off! Anyways I'll put the explanation on how I get my fluff all soft under the read more since I put pictures below!
It's actually really easy and fun because you can mix in colors, and make different colors, but it all starts with the yarn! Yep! I literally grab the yarn itself and turn it into the soft and pretty fluff uwu!!!
How I normally start is by grabbing the yarn that I need and tying a knot in the middle because it makes it easier to keep in place! And by the way, this is only JUST a bit, but if you really REALLY want to make something fluffy you'll need...A LOT more xD, but yeah the tools you'll need will be YARN (obviously), A Comb (Although those pet steel brush works better, but I use a comb with two different teeth) and a Flat Iron (optional)
I start off on one side of the tied up yarn and use the thicker side of the comb to gently brush out the yarn! It's a good idea to start from the bottom and work your way to the top until everything is kinda lose and it's easily to pass the comb through. Then when you're able to do that, then you can pick up the pace and brush it faster. I like to rotate the yarn while I'm brushing so I can evenly brush out all the sides It should look something like this when you're done (and don't worry about the leftover fluff that comes out, you'll be getting a lot of that!) Repeat to the other side!
Now we'll be working with the thinner side of the comb, just like I said, work over the yarn again until it's smooth and fluffly, and also AGAIN don't worry if you see a bunch on extra leftover fluff~ Rotate while combing through to get all the strands!
See the difference between the left side (which was only combed out with the bigger teeth) and the right side? That's how I really accomplish my fluff, now you can stop here if you want, and attach it...but I think passing an iron over it makes a difference! See?
I
Set the iron to the lowest settings possible! (You might want to create a test strand just in case...) then pass over the iron and you'll get this lovely shiny product leftover, it's soooo soft and shiny!Â
Please make sure you don't pass the iron like 100 times because that'll burn through the yarn and make it all rough ;; Don't burn yourself!
THIS IS HOW I ATTACH IT ONTO MY AMIGURUMI!
I grab each strand and look for the yarn still intact, I twist a the yarn a bit so it's easier to grab it with the crochet hook! I go underneath one of the crochet chains and grab the yarn! You want to make it into a slipknot type of thing!
Then simply use your crochet hook to grab the remainder yarn and pull through the hoop and snuggly pull on the yarn to secure it in place! Do it over and over until your desire fluffiness is there!
Anyways I hope this tutorial was helpful and answered your question! It's a little bit tedious to do, but it pays off! If you have any questions, don't mind asking!
