Rich in maple flavor, these Old Fashioned Raised Maple Doughnuts are a delightful treat. They're ideal for breakfast or dessert because they're soft and fluffy.
Ingredients: 1 cup warm milk. 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast. 1/4 cup granulated sugar. 4 cups all-purpose flour. 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened. 2 large eggs. 1/2 teaspoon salt. 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg. 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon. 1/4 cup pure maple syrup. Vegetable oil for frying. 1 cup powdered sugar. 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup. 1/4 cup milk. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Instructions: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, 2 cups of flour, softened butter, eggs, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and 1/4 cup maple syrup. Mix well. Add the yeast mixture to the bowl and mix until well combined. Gradually add the remaining 2 cups of flour and knead the dough until smooth and elastic. Cover with a clean cloth and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out doughnuts using a doughnut cutter or a glass and a smaller cutter for the holes. Place the cut doughnuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350F 175C. Carefully place the doughnuts in the hot oil, frying them for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 1/4 cup milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Dip each doughnut into the glaze and let excess drip off. Place them on a wire rack to set. Serve the Old Fashioned Raised Maple Doughnuts warm and enjoy!
