I think the problem with big fandoms in where you never find a good fic has a lot to do with the fact lots of people are just adding things because they feel they have to to keep up the trend, and it's really not polished. Like, just the amount of the "no beta we die like men" tag usage in the Good Omens section is staggering.
Tbh this is not really a critique, I don't think people necessarily have to do anything they don't want because it's for fucking free, but jesus. I was just reading a fanfiction and thought: Fuck this is so good, but I actually don't care about this tropes? So why is it good? What a trip-. And what made the difference is that the fic was, well, well-written. It was magical.
It's kinda frustrating though because I have to skip a lot of fics with tropes I really love because there's just no dynamism in that writing and it makes it hard to read.
(P.S: this has mostly to do with the fact English is not my first language, because I can read trashfic in Spanish just fine. Heck, my English fanfiction probably falls into this category for some people. It's truly not a big deal, just stating some pet peeve of mine, I guess)
