While it may seem that out of nowhere I started to write my own blog I have been fighting the courage to do so for quite some time. To those who know me I may seem to exude confidence, but in reality I am shockingly extremely shy. Too shy to even write down my thoughts to what most likely is one reader…myself. So like Steve Carell in Crazy, Stupid, Love I needed someone to help me show my potential and true greatness. While I can sit here all day and dream of Ryan Gosling being my knight in skinny suit armor I realized I have someone even better to elicit my confidence. The Manrepeller herself, or Leandra Medine when she is not blogging. If you haven’t herd of her yet, open a new tab immediately, click on this link www.manrepeller.com and welcome to the beautifully quirky and addicting world that is man repelling. I found her after September 2011 NY Fashion Week. She hit the fashion world by storm after that week. She takes the concept that the street is the world’s best runway to a whole new level. At first you go through her outfits that she periodically posts and you drool over them and then all the sudden you start to realize there is something strange going on. Now after this first scroll through her inviting posts you start over and realize it. “She is so freaking WEIRD…and I LOVE it.” and then you realize something else “She is a styling GENIUS”. At least that is how it went for me, and I still have the same thoughts when I read and ogle at her posts. It took me a while to decide what is the one thing that makes her a styling genius, I couldn’t pick one so I settled for two reasons. One, CONFIDENCE the girl has plenty to share with the world she makes eight layers of clothing look straight off the runway. Two, she has FUN unlike so many in the fashion world she never takes herself too seriously and therefore immediately you want to be her or be her best friend. Then I came across her Bluefly.com closet confessions video…that’s when the girl crush started. I mean she vomited in her vintage Hermès clutch, in Paris. We were destined to be best friends. Thus, after about 5 months of trying to be more like the Manrepeller (not so great for my love life but I sacrifice for fashion) I have worn layers upon layers, scoured thrift stores and had a party on my arms I have taken on her best qualities, to be confident and have fun so here I am. Thank you Leandra Medine, you are what fashion needs to be, fierce and inspiring.
