Went over to Manganari with friends. What a magical place. Uli & I always tried to get over here at this time of year while it's still wild & wonderful. The others walked over to the furthest little cove, but I decided to stay on the first one as my joints aren't doing too well with the humidity & scrambling over rocks is difficult. On the bus to go back to the village. Now the Greeks & the Italians are having sing offs in competition with each other. The cacophony is unbelievable. I've been so spoiled for years, not having to take public buses to beaches - reality is quite a shock to the system ;-) However I had a lovely day at #manganaribeach. Maybe I won't go again in high season, the noise level is too much for me. I shouldn't really moan after being privileged to spend some hours in such a beautiful place. I do love a road trip! Looking down on many little coves & majestic rock formations. Here we are approaching #manganaribeach from the bus. There are five little coves that make up the bay. Before the road was built we used to get here by boat, which anchored near the rocks by Christo's Taverna. Little boats would transfer us from the bigger boat to the rocks & we'd traipse off either to the taverna or to one of the beaches. Once the road was built, Uli & I took many trips here by motorbike or car - often off season, before/after the sunbeds & umbrellas got put out. We'd often bring some friends & a picnic. When it was too windy to lie on the beach, we'd take over the little connected islet & lie on the rocks there. We've even stayed overnight here a few times when there was no electricity & things were powered by generators & petrogas. Lights & music went off early. Once we had the privilege of coming over for a birthday party & Vasilis let us stay in his parents' house for the night. Manganari beach - the first beach I visited on Ios all those many years ago. I'm a different person than I was back then, but the wonder and magic is still there. There is nothing quite as magical for me than strolling along Long Beach, shell collecting & feeling the hot sand beneath my bare feet & wading in & out of the crystal clear water.
