Ritual to Stop Obsessively Picking at Your Face
I have long struggled with resisting the urge to stand in front of the bathroom mirror and pop all of the blackheads on my face at the end of every day, so I started performing a small, simple ritual to deny that impulse.
FIRST: *STEP BACK FROM THE MIRROR* stand far enough away from your mirror that you can’t see the teeny tiny insignificant pimples on your face.
🌻Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and quiet your mind a little bit.
🌻If you have the impulse to pick at your face, it means that at some point during that day you or someone else made you feel like you were imperfect or unworthy. Your subconscious desperately wants to rid itself of that negative energy, so it causes you to impulsively pick out your “imperfections” in the form of pimples on your face.
⭐️Take this moment while you are breathing deeply to purge yourself of all the self-deprecating energy you have absorbed. Replace that energy with compassionate, loving energy. If you are having trouble finding compassion for yourself, imagine if a close friend was feeling hurt or insecure. How would you comfort them? What would you say to them to make them feel loved and valued? Direct that same empathy to yourself.
🌻When you are ready, open your eyes and smile at your reflection in the mirror. Maybe say a affirmation to yourself either in your head or out loud. Something like “I am important and loved” or “I do not let others make me feel badly about myself.”
⭐️As you say these affirmations, do your nightly skincare routine (if you have one). If you use a spot treatment or an acne cleanser of any kind, make sure you apply it with the intention of helping your skin work through the toxins it has picked up throughout the day that are trapped in your pores. Don’t think of this as a moment to think about erasing your “flaws” or any other negative thoughts.
🌻Finally, make sure you apply a toner and/or moisturizer to show your skin some extra love. I like to use a rosewater toner because roses are charged with the energies of love and self-care. If my face needs extra moisture, I rub on some coconut oil.
*As soon as you’re done with this, LEAVE YOUR BATHROOM! Do not allow dark energy the space to re-emerge!*
Everyone is beautiful and unique! Always remember to love yourself, and never let external or internal negativity cause you to harm your body in any way!
