How it was supposed to be. NYE present for Tori
"Hey, sorry, it took me forever to find a place where my cell could get a signal… happy new year’s from New York City!" A smile graced her lips as she sat curled beneath an old quilt on her dad's lazy boy. The house was the only quiet one on the block. Her parents had crashed an hour before. Early celebrations with sparklers, loud booms of fireworks, and excited yells of "Happy New Year" could be heard from all corners of her neighborhood. "Technically it's still 2006 here for..." her eyes went to the old grandfather clock just behind her in the hall. "Two hours and 9 minutes." She could hear Ethan chuckle from his side of the line. It was good to hear from him since lately they kept missing each others phone calls over the 3 hour time difference. Her eyes moved to the TV in front of her playing the party scene that was Rockefeller Center. Her heart ached knowing Ethan was there while she was still in Independence finishing her senior year. It was the first New Year they hadn't spent together since he moved to the small Oregon town. There was silence for a moment on her side as she thought about the past six months since Ethan had left and the next six months until she could. It felt like an eternity. "Mal, are you still there?" She shook herself from her thoughts, clutching the phone just a bit tighter. "Yeah, I'm here... just thinking about this time next year." Voices and screams of jubilation could be heard from the background of his phone. He was probably having a good time and she was just moping, alone. "Well then here's to 2008!" He laughed loudly making her smile once again. "It's just six months Mal and if it's any consolation I fucking miss you. New York won't be New York until you're here with me... I love you." Inhaling she could feel the tears now threatening to spill onto her cheeks. "I love you too, Ethan. Here's to 2008!" lushwrites
