If you need/want any headcanon prompts: talk about Nimue/Mordred aND MAKE ME CRY MORE thx
ALWAYS ACCEPTING ┊ ask nim & i stuff & things
@malignedking
un !! mordred is the first to initiate interaction between nimue and himself during their time in avalon. not because he has any particular interest in her as a person or in making friends, but because he’s been explicitly told that there’s this girl who he not only can’t talk to but can’t look at either. mordred no? mordred yes. once he realizes exactly who she is, it behooves him to continue coming to see her and interact with her bc winning her over (and thus her growing powers and intellect) could prove useful to him. and lbh it tickles his selfish, prideful nature to create himself as the only dominating / male presence in nim’s isolated universe.
deux !! that effectively leads to mordred later developing this jealousy in regards to nimue making an appearance at camelot. where before she was this item on a shelf in a cabinet that only he had access to, she’s suddenly public domain and everyone has more than looking on their minds. there’s this idea in his mind that she - in some way - belonged to him. they don’t know her. they don’t understand her. they don’t deserve her attention.
trois !! attention that he used to have in its most rapt and undivided form. listen, mordred is a charmer and a young, lonely af nimue is not immune. she would have looked forward to his visits, clung to his every word, and just loved learning anything and everything about him bc she’s curious by nature and hungry for knowledge in general. not to mention that she’d feel like he really listened to her, that he was her friend and she could trust him. this is a girl starving for human connection...and mordred is the only one supplying. ANYWAY, that all ends when mordred goes and desecrates the great marriage with niniane.
mordred accuses nimue of being jealous, and she accuses him of having no faith in anything - least of all preserving the old religion and saving it from the mists. (spoiler: both of these things are true) a fight ensues and all chances of reconciliation are ruined when mordred runs off and morgaine returns to teach nimue to be a cold pawn in her games.
quatre !! when they’re finally reunited at camelot, they both have a hard time understanding who they are to one another and how they should act. mordred knows that she’s not the christian girl that she’s pretending to be, and she knows what his true motives for staying close to arthur are. while they’re both a threat to one another’s plans, they’re also the only familiar face and understanding soul that either of them has. mordred tries to reassert dominance over nimue, only to find that she’s not a child anymore. nimue tries to write off mordred, only to find that she still can’t entirely let go.
cinq !! because mordred keeps shoving his way into her life, nimue has a harder time falling victim to the spell she places on the merlin. after all, he’s only too happy to remind her what a stupid plan it is. to ask her if she’ll like it when an old man makes love to her. to try and shake some sense into her and make her see that it’s not the will of the goddess, that her faith is being used. (a hard argument for a man with no faith to make to a devout believer lbh) and while this causes tension, strife, and arguments of its own, the main reason nimue is having a hard time fully bending the knee is because what she feels for mordred outweighs the enchantment.
