・゚° ☾ ✧ △ 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒆𝒕 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒓— not empty, but hushed in the way places get when money does the talking. Ardent was carved into a rooftop terrace of weathered wood and polished brass, lanterns flickering softly among the potted olive trees and flowering vines. Every detail was curated to feel warm, rustic, human... the sort of place designed to make hard men soften at the edges. Alec Pierce arrived at precisely nine am. Cobalt hues did not meet his watch. He didn’t need to. Time bent for him, in meetings, in markets, in matters of family. Tonight was no exception. He handed his coat to the host, unhurried. Underneath, a perfectly tailored navy suit. Clean lines. Discreet cufflinks. Nothing flashy, for he had no one to impress, and yet, presentation was a language he spoke fluently.
His eyes scanned the terrace until he found the table he’d reserved. Corner seat. Privacy, but not isolation. Warm lighting. Clear view of the door. He took his seat and nodded once to the server, not needing to speak, Miss Renée had already arranged the wine. He exhaled slowly, fingertips grazing the rim of his glass, but not drinking. Not yet.
Across the table sat an empty chair. She was late by a minute. Not enough to irritate, but enough to note. Alec’s thoughts wandered, briefly, to Zara. Her tiny shoes tapping across the penthouse floor earlier that morning, tutu askew, demanding that 'Papa makes the plait today, not Renée' He’d obliged, of course... clumsily, gently. She'd inspected it in the mirror, declared it 'good enough' and hugged his leg before ballet class. She deserved more than 'good enough' And maybe... just maybe...this was how she got it.
He wouldn’t call it fate. He didn’t believe in such things. But he believed in creating structure where life had unraveled. In building, when all you’d known was what it meant to lose. This arrangement, this meeting, it wasn’t romance... but it was hope, in its most practical form. The possibility of something steadier. Softer. A home that didn’t feel like a fortress.
This wasn’t a romantic dinner. It was an interview. An introduction. A contract between strangers, perhaps. Or something more, depending on how the evening unfolded. And then...Footsteps. A shadow near the host stand. A figure stepping into the soft light. His gaze lifted, unreadable but focused. ❛ Miss Liya ❜. he said as she approached, rising to greet her with the smallest of polite smiles, extended hand firm, but not cold. ❛ Alec Pierce... ❜.
With smooth precision, he helped her out of her coat, folding it carefully over one arm before handing it off to the nearby attendant. Then, he returned to the table with her, pulled out her chair, and waited for her to sit before reclaiming his own seat across from her. Only then did he allow a flicker of something gentler to surface, not quite a smile, but close. ❛ I trust the reservation met your expectations ❜. he said, tone measured, but not cold.
