Is cities skylines any good? I'm considering getting it but not sure if it was comparable to any of the simcities or not.
Honestly I cannot say I have played that much just yet, but in all fairness everything I have seen so far makes this look and feel like a true simcity game. It does away with lot tiles in a grid and makes it 4 tiles deep around roads, so even curvy roads will have segmented tile spots on them (great for winding lazy suburbs). The Traffic management system seems incredibly sophisticated, boasting all the same things that EA’s simcity(tm) said it could do but actually DOING them instead of being rubbish. Oh, and pedestrians walk to places using pavements a lot more. No more lazy sims adding to traffic to travel 1-2 blocks to work. Seriously there’s just too many other features to list here, but assigning districts with their own ordinances and industry style is wonderful. (you can create a district dedicated to forestry or agriculture instead of dirty factories for example). Buildings upgrade over time with the right land value and utilities and you unlock new public services and tool and such as your city grows so to a new player its not so intimidating right off the bat.So far, I would say that if you loved the older simcity games then you would probably find a lot to love in Skylines. It even has solid mod support (learn from them EA…oh wait you just fired Maxis) and the developers heartily encourage this and are supporting the community. And perhaps somthing a little less specific but somthing I can get behind on an ethical level, the team is made up of 13 Indie Developers, not a massive company.Plus this is Mariina Hallikainen (CEO) and Karoliina Korppoo (Lead Designer) :
I am all for supporting awesome ladies in the games industry leading the way with an awesome team making an awesome game :)
