Making blue paint! (SOURCE) (1)
MAKING PAINT: BLUE IRIS 🦋 asmr & speedpaint
Making my own paint
In painting we were tasked with making paint with the materials/ingredients we had around us .
• List of ingredients I used •
Oil
Expired eyeshadow
Expired cream eyeshadows
Paprika
Chilli powder
Honey
Cinnamon
Water
Wood glue
Red food colouring
Black food colouring
I found that even tough I used the same ingredients for some of the paints that the result didn’t always come out exactly thesame depending on the colour of the ingredient .
This happened with the food colouring specifically. The red came out really nice and acrylic like but the black was not as opaque and looked more like a watercolour .
I tried mixing honey with some of the spices but the result was quite sticky and patchy when painting . This didn’t work out well and was my least favourite
The spices worked well with water and wood glue , I really liked the textures created .
I mixed eyeshadow with glue and practically this worked but I lost a lot of the original pigment .
My favourite visually would be the oil and eyeshadow . They looked really good but the colour would transfer to your fingers when you touched it . This outcome really reminded me of chalk pastels so I tried spraying hairspray on them and it seems to help with setting them.
PAINTING - Making paint. Spices and Ash.
Enjoyable, if messy. Added water and PVA whilst the pigments were on the paper. It was an adventure watching it all move and change accross the page.

Making Paint - creating backdrops for Animation.
For the Painting Elective we were asked to make our own paints. I chose to use food stuff to do so. I used the following:
*cinnamon
*beetroot
*mustard
*green curry sauce
*blueberries
*honey
*water
I blended the blueberries, as well as the beetroot, while I added honey and water to all of mixtures. The beetroot concoction and the mustard mix were the most vibrant colours, followed by the rustic cinnamon. The green curry sauce mix was very weak and did not work well. Although, overall I was happy with the textures that resulted from the range of food-stuff.
I used a reference photo that I took yesterday from my visit to my former secondary sports grounds (which I often run on with my spikes). I created two abstract landscape pieces from the food stuff, once dry I scanned them into my computer to use as a backdrop for my animation elective.
The end result: Cáit from Cappa running along with her spikes (the open scene from my recent storyboard).
Making your own paint assignment.
Exploring my cupboards for different colours I found some spices and other bits and bobs. I combined each with pva glue, the texture wasn't very piant like and the colours all appeared earthy. With this inind I attempted a landscape. Over all it was a messy experience, if I were to use food again I would stick with coffee and soy sauce. Which is something I hope to do in the future.
