Baby got Back*
Now, when working anywhere hot, whether that be on location in the Sahara Desert or a piping hot studio in East London, actors are always going to sweat, sending your make-up into a messy mudslide of constant checks. No matter how hard you waft that fan or mop that brow sometimes there is nothing other than an ice bath that will keep their cool!
Cologne and chamois are an old staple in the make-up world too for cooling actors and you can get cologne here there and everywhere, in the UK that is. Now when some of our Mill workers headed out to Africa, finding that bit of old spice wasn’t so easy...until they stumbled upon a tin hut in the middle of a bustling market place, with the sign ‘Mother Care’. Not what you would expect next to a stall of pineapples and beads but hey, when looking for baby wipes there is nothing a Make-up Artist in 38oC heat wont try!
Upon entering there was all manner of lotions and potions for that ‘baby soft skin’ and there, in the smallest cabinet next to some pampers and nipple pads, bottles of ‘Baby Cologne’. Now our first thought was, why on earth would a baby need Cologne? Not wanting to judge, we didn't ask and took every bottle on the shelf!
As like normal Cologne, Baby Cologne mixed with water and applied to an Ice Towel ( read our next post) cooled the actors down a treat. What we especially loved about the Baby Cologne was its size, it is perfect for keeping in your set bag and as its for babies, it is a little more gentle on the skin than some other Colognes found in the UK.
Now a kit staple for those hotter than hot locations for keeping your actor cool as a cucumber and not crying like a baby.
