Introduction to Beacons @ Makerhaus, Seattle
Seattle-based Mashery Evangelist Rex St. John runs a Meetup group called "Internet of *" and kicked off the summer season last night with a well-attended first event hosted at Makerhaus (www.makerhaus.com) in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood. The topic: Introduction to Beacons.
Many different types of beacons were discussed including Estimote, Roximity, Nomi, PayPal Beacon, Gimbal and BlueCats as well as the broader impact and opportunity represented by Bluetooth LE beacons in the retail industry.
Makerhaus co-founders Ellie and Mike Kemery were present for photo ops.
Here are a few of the beacons being demonstrated.
Also on display were potential API integrations with the MapMyRun API demonstrating how a user might stop and start a run automatically whenever they enter and exit the range of their home beacon.
Overall the event was a great introduction to what we hope will continue to be a strong Internet of Things Meetup community in Seattle! We would like to thank Makerhaus for hosting (and providing everyone with free beer) and all Meetup attendees for helping us launch this group successfully.
