This is my first Art Assigment. It was suppossed to be a rug, but it ended up being my dog's bed/toy. I like the way this assigment makes it possible for art to be functional, to be something used, manipulated and not a still piece to be gazed at

Look at this amazing thing we all made this weekend at #VidCon2015! So many wonderful people contributed to making this, and it was such an extreme pleasure to meet and talk to many of them. #theartassignment #makearug
The Art Assignment Episode 10: Make a Rug
This is my first art assignment, and I'm very proud the result. It was hard to cut up my old clothes through. Some of them used to belong to my older sister before me, so they've been around for a long time and have a lot of great memories attached to them, as do the costumes pieces from old dancing concerts.
Then there are the clothes that I never wore, but I still hung on to for ages because I am a terrible hoarder, and hand-me-down handkerchiefs that I think have been sitting in my drawer for most of my life.
What I loved about this project is that this great variety of material - all the different colours, patterned, plain, sheer, thin. thick, buttoned, sequined, cherished, neglected - received the same fate. The clothes that I loved and the clothes that I hated have come together and become something new, interesting, and beautiful.
An art assignment by me. Not quite a rug. More like an inedible spanakopita. Made from leftover headbands from a Flower Power themed party.
