Hi there! Our idiom of the day is ”Make ends meet,” which means “to have just enough money to pay for the things that you need.”⠀ The phrase is from tailoring or dressmaking, and refers to the amount of material needed to make a piece of clothing reach round the body, so that its two ends meet. It is first recorded in The History of the Worthies of England (1662), by the Church of England clergyman Thomas Fuller (1607/8-61). You need example sentences with pronunciation? So, this poor guy is going broke because the rooster isn't interested in meeting the hens or chickens, and they look like they don't have much interest either because they're mostly running away. If hens don't meet the rooster, there will be no breeding and no chicks. When you can't make enough money to survive we say you are having trouble "making ends meet". This sounds a lot like "making hens meet". Of course breeding also involves making ends meet. And THAT's what's so funny!
