#make a mess

This time when opening a sketch book I looked at the blank page and at my paints and I IGNORED THE URGE TO DO THINGS RIGHT and just started slopping paint on the paper. I’m using gelly gouache which can act like both watercolor and acrylics, which is great for fixing shit later that you didn’t mean to do.

I honestly forgot how relaxing it is to just slop stuff together on a page, knowing that it has to look like a mess first, much like a first or second draft is a mess.

You need the mess to get the good stuff out of it later.

And even if you don’t, then at least you had fun.

Go make a mess. Even if you don’t know where to start. Even if you don’t know how it’ll turn out. Just start. 🎬🎤🎷🤸🏻‍♀️

This piece took me two weeks. I began, walked away, came back, walked away again… and finally finished it. And sometimes? We start things and never finish. That’s okay too. Creativity isn’t about perfection—it’s about expression. Movement. Magic.

Whatever your medium—paint, poetry, clay, collage, stick figures on a napkin—let it flow without judgment or comparison. Your inner child is wanting to play.
