👉🏻featured artist, Robert Liguori Rob is a local artist who focuses primarily in oil painting. The bulk of his professional training was while in high school, taking regular lessons under Mercedes Gastonguay in Lewiston, Maine. During this period of his life, his focus was in watercolor and only had a short opportunity to experiment in oil before he graduated and left for college. While in college, Rob took a long hiatus from painting and focused on his degree. In 2013, after a trip to Ireland Rob found a lot of inspiration in the landscape and architecture and decided it was time to pick up his brushes. When he decided to paint again, Rob was especially interested in oil painting rather than going back to watercolor. Because he had such limited training in oil painting, he turned to books and the internet to learn the basic principles and techniques. Using these methods to self-teach, he also began to travel more frequently, picking up more inspiration along the way. Rob is especially interested in painting urban landscapes. The solid shapes of man-made structures allows for a sharper contrast of light and shadow that he attempts to capture in his work. The majority of his recent work is from traveling to various countries in Europe, where he finds the ornate architecture beautiful and enjoyable to paint.
