Mahimet his marke
More commonly spelled Mahomet. Mohegan. Their homelands along and around the Massapequotuck (or Thames) River in so-called “Connecticut.” This deed, also signed by Owaneco, is meant to transfer land nearby to so-called “New London, Connecticut” in exchange for a nondescript sum of “moneys and English goods…” The document mentions that the tract of land is bounded by a hill, called Mattamoogwicy [sic].
Mahomet’s kin: Son of Owaneco, Sachem at Mohegan, and father of Mahomet Yeomanum.
