Eddy Current Testing Machine by Magkraft NDT for crack detection in conductive metals
The Eddy Current Testing Machine works on electromagnetic induction. A coil in the probe induces circulating currents in the part, and any flaw disturbs that flow. The instrument reads the disturbance and shows it as a signal.
What it picks up:
Surface and near-surface cracks Seams, laps and pitting Corrosion thinning Grinding burns and heat treatment variation
Which materials:
Any electrically conductive metal carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass, titanium and nickel alloys. This is where it goes past magnetic particle inspection, which only works on ferromagnetic material.
Why shop floors prefer it:
No couplant, no powder, no developer. Light paint or plating is tolerated within the probe lift-off range, so parts do not need washing and drying again. That makes it practical for in-line checking at production speed.
It is also used for material sorting. Differences in conductivity and permeability change the coil response, so mixed grades and heat treatment errors can be separated without cutting or chemical testing.
One limitation worth knowing: penetration is a few millimetres. Lower frequency reaches deeper, higher frequency gives better near-surface sensitivity. For flaws deep inside the section, pair it with ultrasonic testing.
