Well if immigration to JA was similar to that of Trinidad , there's a large Chinese population due to indentured serve ants after slavery was banned to work on the sugar and cocoa plantations
Yes, that's it basically - the British gov't had apparently started to look into the feasibility of importing labour from 1811, but it was a little later - from 1854 - that there started to be boats of indentured labourers straight from China to JA, like elsewhere in the Caribbean. A majority worked out their contracts and took the return passage home, but a proportion stayed and settled.

Wow - that's amazing! And the photos are fantastic - you are so lucky to have these beautiful pictures of your family.
I have to say that I'm really grateful for my cousin finding those two photos. Her mum gave them to her (dad's oldest sister); dad didn't know they existed until recently. There are very few of dad's side of the family - they didn't have a camera, so it was just the occasional portrait/passport photo style shots. Which is still pretty lucky!
