My parents avoid magic in fiction.
I analyze magic in fiction.
They and I avoid magic/witchcraft in real life.
I came to the conclusion that Harry Potter bears only a aesthetic resemblance to any real life practices. No demons or goddesses involved. (some fanfics excepted) Maybe some bad attitudes and loose morality. And of course it's a school, and schools are evil indoctrination centers. (Facetious)
I have not really discussed this with my parents. I certainly haven't said I've read the books. It would disappoint them, fail to change their minds, and I don't think they made a bad decision. But I am hiding a part of me and that can be hard.
The weird thing is I don't really want to to change their minds. My parents as fans of Harry Potter would seem like the world had turned inside out. I just want the not too watch me. Which is almost like saying I wish they didn't care.
