[ run ] for your muse to run their fingers through mine’s hair
May 15, 2003
After the chaos of their teenage years, maybe some people would find their routine now to be boring, but Hermione couldn’t be happier with it. Coming home after a long day of work she was more often than not exhausted, the kind that ran straight to your bones and made every step weary. There wasn’t much talking on days like that, but it was a silence not fraught with anything. They were just comfortable, happy to be in each others presence but not having to speak on it.
She had made it home before him, only mustering up enough bother to get herself into the shower after a light dinner, leaving some in the fridge for him but knowing he’d probably eaten at work. Once she was fresh and clean, Hermione settled herself onto their plush sofa with her worn copy of The Catcher in the Rye.
He arrived home some time into the fourth chapter, kicking off his shoes at the door and heading towards her wordlessly. Hermione looked up from her book long enough to cast him an adoring smile and a whispered greeting before he was plopping onto the sofa beside her, the lines of his face drawn with weariness. Draco lay down, head nestled on her lap and she went back to her reading, only a few short moments passing before her hand took its place atop his head, fingers caressing through the silky blonde strands in a calming manner.
By the time she’d made it to the fifth chapter, he was fast asleep with his head in her lap, but her fingers never stilled.
