sabina has never been one to drink. her dreams become inescapable when she does, threatening to claw her to the fade in body and soul. but she doesn’t mind sitting in the tavern, she finds. it was dorian’s suggestion, at first, so people can become used to her face. associate her presence with an activity they enjoy, rather than as just the prophetic tevinter mage that was unable to stop the sky from opening (something she didn’t even have a vision of, mind you.). and she doesn’t really know anyone but dorian and is finding herself lonely. because as much as she feared for her life in tevinter, at least people would speak to her.

as   soon   as   the   comment   is   made   ,   mason's   first   initial   response   is   to   gently   slap   his   friend   upside   the   head.   believe   it   or   not   ,   working   at   a   cafe   bookstore   doesn't   being   home   the   bacon   like   you   hope   it   would.   no   ,   to   make   ends   meet   , mason   does   odd   jobs   when   he   can   &   tonight   he's   heading   to   a   bar   to   play   lounge   music   for   a   few   hours   ,   which   requires   him   to   wear   a   full   on   suit   &   tie   ,   since   the   place   is   a   bit   snazzy.   this   is   probably   victor's   first   time   ever   seeing   him   in   dressed   up   attire   ,   so   he   understands   the   shock.   &   since   they   are   more   like   brothers   than   friends   nowadays   ,   the   slap   is   well   within   his   right   ,   especially   since   mason   had   to   pay   a   pretty   penny   just   to   get   this   particular   suit   dry   cleaned   in   preparation   for   tonight.

it   wasn't   the   knight's   intention   to   be   so   rough   with   the   thief   within   seconds   of   their   reunion   ,   but   he   couldn't   risk   the   possibility   of   him   being   seen   by   his   fellow   guards   ,   who   would   have   quickly   arrested   him   on   the   spot.   polite   greetings   will   have   to   wait   until   he   can   get   victor   somewhere   private   ,   his   metal   hand   grasping   at   victor's   sleeve   &   tugging   him   into   the   nearest   alleyway.   it   isn't   until   they   are   hidden   by   a   wall   &   dark   shadows   that   he   finally   releases   him   ,   a   slight   pang   of   guilt   hitting   his   chest   when   he   realizes   how   hard   his   grip   might   have   been.   he   should   apologize   for   the   roughness   ,   as   he   would   never   want   to   hurt   him   ,   but   it's   cut   short   when   victor   admits   to   the   reason   why   he   was   here   &   suddenly   he's   brought   back   down   to   reality.   cheeks   flush   as   he   meets   the   thief's   gaze   ,   surprised   that   he   doesn't   seem   at   all   deterred   by   his   status   or   affiliation.   one   or   two   shows   of   kindness   was   enough   for   him   to   risk   being   able   to   see   him   ,   &   while   the   sentiment   is   nice   ,   it's   also   a   ridiculous   reason   to   put   oneself   at   risk.   no   matter   what   emotions   he   feels   right   now   ,   the knight   can't   let   himself   get   lost   in   it   all.   honor   &   duty   come   first   &   foremost.   he   swore   an   oath   to   protect   the   kingdom   &   he   can't   allow   any   distractions   ━━   from   anything   or   anyone.

❝   do   you   realize   what   you   risk   by   coming   here   so   brazenly   ?   ❞   gustave   doesn't   like   having   to   scold   this   man   ,   but   he   has   to   get   through   to   him   just   how   dangerous   of   a   situation   this   could   have   been.   guards   have   been   posted   more   &   more   throughout   the   kingdom   than   ever   before   ,   the   king   paranoid   of   the   possibility   of   a   coupe   planning   to   overthrow   him.   anyone   could   be   a   possible   target   ,   but   especially   those   who   steal   &   scam   people   for   a   living.   without   thinking   ,   gustave   reaches   over   to   gently   smooth   out   the   sleeve   of   victor's   shirt   that   he   held   onto   early   ,   a   show   of   slight   apology   without   uttering   the   words   aloud.   ❝   i   didn't   get   you   out   of   trouble   all   those   past   times   just   to   risk   your   neck   for   .   .   .   what   ?   a   chance   to   see   me   ?   &   for   what   reason   ?   ❞   he's   still   shocked   by   that   honestly   ,   trying   not   to   let   his   thoughts   linger   on   it   too   long   before   continuing.   ❝   you   need   to   get   out   &   let   your   other   confidants   know that   the   kingdom   is   becoming   more   guarded.   it'll   be   a   lot   easier   for   them   to   throw   you   in   jail   for   any   little   thing. ❞ a   deep   sigh   ,   followed   by   a  saddened expression.   ❝   victor , i   can't   promise   i   can   help   you   out   of   another situation   if   you   were   to   get   caught.   ❞

“ get the fuck off of him. ” mack yells, but amos doesn't listen. of course he doesn't. and to his horror, he starts to punch. he needs to act quickly. amos is bigger than him. not by much, but enough to count. he couldn't pull him off of him and get him away from victor, they'd both end up hurt. so, in a moment that truthfully is mere seconds but feels like forever, he pulls his pistol from his waistband, presses it to the back of amos's head, cocks it, and... bang.
