But a hunter is deceptive; a monster who wears the skin of a human. He smiles and something feels wrong: this is not the smile of your fellow man, but a predator who kills to live baring its teeth. Neither of you understand this in any conscious way. Its just an odd discomfort you cant place. Theres a horrible shimmer in the back of his eyes, but what if it was but a reflection?

i wrote a long response to this but tumblr killed it . It was very long so i’ll just restate what i said, hopefully as well as the first time;

I personally think its an issue of it becomign homogonized with other eldritch horror tropes (see: kiy often depicted with tentacles it was never stated to have) I mean heck some use the term “lovecraftian” (whcih i think is a stupid term) to refer to eldritch horror.

Its funny bexause to me the king in yellow is a very different entity to other such Guyses. Its not a horror of realization of your cosmic insignificance in the face of something vast and powerful which you are but an ant to. Its a tyrant demanding obsession and subservience or death (notice how all the readers either become subservient or are faced with tragedy and death? usually at the hands of some deathly-faced pursuer?) Maybe this being (of the king itself) didn’t even exist until the poison of the second act came unto the pages. none of this infjnite knowledge bullshit i see eveyone spouting. It makes you think of itself and only itself. It is a forced obsession because it is simply too beautiful and true and repugnant and everything else. Tahts how i see it
