maddox had followed evie without much question at first. that was probably his first mistake. the second was assuming that when a pretty woman pulled him away from the chaos of the rift valley summer kick-off festival and started leading him somewhere secluded, there was a very specific reason for it. in his defense, the evidence had seemed pretty convincing. now, however, as the music and laughter from the festival faded further behind them and the rocky trail ahead narrowed toward what appeared to be a cave entrance, he was beginning to suspect he may have misread the situation entirely. hands shoved into the pockets of his jeans, maddox glanced from the dark opening ahead back to evie, one brow arching as a grin tugged at the corner of his mouth. "alright, i'm gonna be honest," he said, slowing his pace slightly. "i thought we were sneakin' off to make out, but the closer we get to what looks like the opening scene of a horror movie, the less confident i'm feelin' about that assessment." his gaze flicked back toward the cave before returning to her. "where are we heading again?"
