This YouTuber (not calling them out, it's their opinion) said that Madagascar was a franchise that Dreamworks kept milking for money by making sequels. And that is what made me so mad.

Look, you don't have to like all three Madagascar movies equally. You could think that they should've ended it at 2, or heck you could think that they shouldn't have made any sequels and ended it at 1, that's your opinion. But, respectfully, your opinion is WRONG.

Yes, the movie ended, but the story wasn't resolved yet. The gang's goal was to go back to New York, specifically the zoo. At the end of the first one, where were they? Still in Madagascar with no way of leaving (because the ship was out of fuel.) What about 2? They were in the Kenya wildlife preserve with, again, no way of getting home because the penguins had taken the monkey plane to Monte Carlo. (And yes, the zoosters were pretty fine with staying in Kenya for a bit, but that's because they thought the penguins were coming back soon.) But, in 3, guess where they end up? In New York, at the zoo! Of course from there they realized that the zoo wasn't what they wanted anymore, but that's for another analysis (or whatever this is)

If Dreamworks was really "milking" it wouldn't they have made Madagascar 4 or 5 at this point? I mean, like, look at Shrek. They're making, like, the fifth sequel for it. (No hate to Shrek or any of its sequels. I don't watch Shrek so I don't have any opinions on 'when it should have ended' or anything.)

"Oh Bean, what about the penguins movie?" They're loved characters, of course they got their own movie. A movie that had a message and a story to tell. And, again, wouldn't they have made a sequel to that if they just wanted money?

"But what about the shows?" Wow, popular franchise gets a show. Fork found in kitchen. But, love em or hate them, people put real work and care into these shows. They have original stories, original characters, and, in my opinion, they're pretty funny and full of heart. Not just cheap cash grabs with the hook, "You like King Julien don't you? Pay Netflix all your money!" (Which, I don't think you can even watch AHKJ, the NETFLIX ORIGINAL, on Netflix anymore?) Plus these shows aren't even canon, you don't have to watch them if you don't like them. They don't affect anything. They're just for if you want more mada content. (I could see an argument for A Little Wild, but by golly let the kids have something. It's for little kids, no one is forcing you to watch it.) And yeah, shows make money, but not nearly as much as a sequel to a successful franchise, like Madagascar. Which people have been wanting for 10 years at this point.

It was about a african boy who got tricked into leaving his tribe's area so he could be kidnapped and sold. He was taken to a place where people paid just to see his giant hair and his performance. Alone and away from trustable adults, he tought this was life. Be pretty, be what they want to see, be loved.

But then Alex the lion manages his way back home, only to find out he's not in a place he can be apreciated as he is either. He's too vain, too feminine, not manly enough to be alpha. He's yet alone. That is until he brings the water back, then and only then, people notice him as someone, beyond the steryotipes.

I’ve been watching so much Madagascar lately that I finally caved and made an oc. Her name is Safya, she’s a cheetah who would appear in the second film, and she came to the reserve as a cub with her mom from a sanctuary in India. Now, in real life, lions and cheetahs are very much rivals, but this is a dreamworks franchise featuring a lion whose best friend is a zebra, so Safya being partially raised by the pride wouldn’t be too much of a stretch in this universe. Especially since Zumba and Florrie were still mourning their son by the time she arrived.
