Oh hey, long time no see. Just wanted to confirm that I still retain my fascination with how public domain film was marketed in the VHS era. Thankfully, I'm not alone in that interest, as Ben from "Oddity Archive" has now done a video on how silent film was presented to home viewers, and with what music (sometimes random, sometimes original, often mismatched). Charlie Chaplin, Nosferatu, Metropolis, and more Chaplin! Absolutely worth a watch.

A compilation that I picked up in a Half-priced Book Store in Lexington, Kentucky, USA, on a business trip. Many good Funk / Soul standards on this release. It was Track 7 that caught my attention; Rose Royce with “Car Wash”. I suspect that this CD is one of a set.

While my Tumblr contains a ton of visual input into the PD-based releases from the VHS era, there is a lot more info out there just waiting to be found and compiled by those with the time and patience to look for it. Case in point: The Oddity Archive has followed up their piece on Amvest video with a detailed look at Madacy, Trans-Atlantic Video, United American Video, Burbank Video, and even a bit of Cartoons R Fun. Examples of these tapes' quality and in-house edits abound, with plenty of material that I had yet to see before. There's also an appearance by PD-tape (and, apparently, WWE) enthusiast Geno Cuddy.
