Four-toed Sengi or Four-toed Elephant Shrew (Petrodromus tetradactylus beirae), family Macroscelididae, order Macroscelidea, Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique

a bunch of sengi species drawn from photo refs. I don't know which I like more - the tiny round species or the large scrungly ones... what a delightful family of animals. Very unique. Also known as "elephant shrews" and in reality they are more closely related to elephants than to shrews.
Etendeka Round-eared Sengi Macroscelides micus
It is only found in gravel plains in the Etendeka formation of north-west Namibia. It is the smallest in the elephant shrew family. M. micus does not burrow, instead sleeping in bushes. It uses its long nose to hunt for ground insects.

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
The world record for the 100 meter dash is held by Usain Bolt, coming in at 9.58 seconds. Despite being significantly smaller than Mr. Bolt, elephant shrews can give him a good run for his money! Some species, such as the western rock elephant shrew or the cape elephant shrew, weigh only 50 g (1.7 oz) on average, but they have been clocked at running up to 28.8 kph (17.9 mph)- meaning they can cover the 100 meter dash in just 11.4 seconds!
