#2894 - Macaca radiata - Bonnet Macaque
AKA the zati.
A primate that Pauli saw in a few places around India, including Kerala, and Hampi in Karnataka. They found in the southern portions of the subcontinent.
They feed on fruits, nuts, seeds, flowers, invertebrates, cereals, anything they can pinch from houses and crops, and whatever they can get off people.
Dominance hierachies differ between the sexes - females maintain a stable hierachy, and usually remain in the troop where they were born, and may form matrilineal social groups. Male hierachies are much more fluid, and may include coalitions formed to oust dominant males, but bonnet macaques are less aggressive than other macaque species, and use grooming, hugging, sleeping near each other, play and male-male mounting to defuse growing social pressure.
Bonnet Macaques reach sexual maturity by three or four, but can live for up to 35 years.
