Scheduled Notifications 1.0
I've been working on a little productivity application in my spare time, due to my believed shortcomings of Matt Gemmell's Sticky Notifications. Don't get me wrong, for what it was designed to do, it's absolutely awesome; I wanted something a bit more, so I built it.
Scheduled Notifications (pending on the app store at the moment, also on my website) is a tool quite like MGs but focused around one feature in particular: Helping you remember your reminder when you need to remember it.
Sticky Notifications leaves the notification on screen since it fires right away. Fine if you're walking away from your computer and want to reduce your context switch cost when you come back (Scheduled Notifications can do that too); but if you just want to remember to do something in 5 minutes, or tomorrow at noon and not loose that desktop space before then, then I think Scheduled Notifications is the better tool.
When you first launch Scheduled Notifications, you'll spot a little welcome window like the one below:
Hopefully this will answer most questions people have right out of the box. If not, there's a quick link to send an e-mail to my inbox.
When clicking on the status bar icon, you'll get a window like this:
This window allows you to schedule a notification. The What field is used to indicate what you want to display when the When time occurs.
The When field has one neat little feature: Natural language date format. It probably won't catch every date format you put in it, so if you do happen to run across such a case, please let me know and I will try to cover that case as best as is possible. Entering a time relative to the current time is best supported. For example, "in 5 minutes", "next tuesday at 2 pm" or even "4 minutes past 2 am next friday".
If you want to see what has been scheduled, I've got a view for that too in the little drop down menu on the above window. It looks like this:
There's a handy unschedule button if you want to remove it from being fired.
You can check it out on the MAS soon. I'll update this post with the URL when it's live. For now, or if you prefer, you can purchase the app from inside the application itself, by downloading it over here.
