he gets dirtier by the day

I started racing in 1991. Never with great results, but I always enjoyed the adrenalin rushes of start lines (and still do). My third MTB was an Alpinestars Almega DX I bought in at French a sport retailer (Decathlon) in 1991. I changed a lot of components one after the other. I finally lined up with my pimped Almega at the first French Championship for universities in 1993. It was over 2 days, with XC on Saturday and the DH on Sunday. Both had to be ridden with the same bike. I finished in the top 30. 1 year ago, I came across an affordable used Almega XT. Actually, the same as the one I had (even same size), simply in XT group and with a black paint. This gave me the idea of another restoration project: building the replica of my French Championship bike from 1993. I removed the paint and polished the paint (cool thing to learn but I would not do it again!!!). This took 4 months, broke 3 sanding machines, used 12 polishing brushes...but in the end it looks like the Almega XTR frame I dreamt of in 1992. Chasing components matching my exact 1992 setup took a lot of time, and now I am proud to share with you the result. Last word: body remembers, riding this bike today brings me 30 years back exactly. Position and feelings seem very familiar.
