Sonic lost his leg fighting off Maria to safe Shadow's life. At first he laughed it off, but his jokes slowly faded as he realised there was no going back. No prosthetic can keep up with him, they keep breaking when he tries to run. He mostly stays indoors now, quills grown long and unkept. He's skinny and pale and struggling with depression, but despite all of that he tries to keep us with Shadow whenever he gets news about Maria's whereabouts. He wants to help him.

For he would trade his leg again and again for the love of his life.
