From that moment on, Henry escaped into worlds of fiction when reality became too much. He's lived vicariously through characters on wild adventures, exploring the world — both real and fantastical — in his mind's eye. He's traveled thousands of miles over thousands of pages. He's felt the pain of poets and fallen in love with their muses. He's worn the shoes of people that never existed.

Mercifully, the door swings open before Alex can recoil, and Henry takes the opportunity to pull away. It’s Nora standing in the archway, and he watches her take in the scene before her: the scattered books, recently extinguished candles, Alex leaning heavily on Henry’s chest… “Okay,” Alex says, sitting up slowly. “Um. So. Any chance you’d believe that Henry and I were just engaged in a passionate sex ritual and that all of… this… is not… something that will really piss you off?” Nora folds her arms over her chest. “I’d say that’s a solid zero, buddy.”

Then [Henry's] lungs are seizing, his throat feels raw, his heart feels like it’s going to burst straight through his chest like a bloody cartoon, and he knows—he knows—he’s having a panic attack, but somewhere behind the ringing in his ears, he distantly thinks that it would serve him right to keel over from a heart attack right now. Maybe, if he did, the scales would tip and Alex would spring to his feet an ocean away.

Fic Writing Review 2023!

So, as some of you know... 2023 was extremely difficult for me. I only have 7,147 words on AO3 for the year, and that includes the drabble collection I just started for the month of December. I didn't realize until I did this that I only published one full-length fic in 2023. Oof!

As a result, I'll be skipping most of this exercise and just focusing on my current projects and the future. Here is the full review completed by someone who wrote multiple fics lol.
