I'm not sure who took this photo, probably @annettecorkery. Just reminding you that Bilberry Sunday is on 25th July. The annual walk meets in front of @ardaghmoydowgaa at 11am. Bilberry Sunday is Sunday 25th July. We have the Brí Leith Walk, which has served the community well during these unprecedented times, because of Bilberry Sunday. It never would have happened only for 10 years ago a small group of people decided to revive the tradition of Bilberry Sunday on the hill and then @LongfordTourism agreed to apply for funding and here we are. Eternally grateful for good people.. Let's keep the tradition alive this year. In ancient times the High King had the rights to the Bilberries of Ardagh Hill so they were collected before the Lughnasa celebrations and brought to the festivities. The likelihood is the festivities in Ardagh lasted for a week right up to Lughnasa. The tradition of going on the hill in a group continued well into the 1960s. It trickled away as the Bilberries trickled away when the coniferous forest plantation made it difficult for it to grow. 10 years ago it came back to life. All are welcome to walk but social distance rules have to be adhered to. At this stage everyone knows how keeping your distance, even outside, is necessary, especially with the new variant rampant so as our parents would have said "look out from yourself" (be aware of others) and keep at least 2 metres from other walkers on the route.
